Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. She comes from the fourth Roberts family to have been a resident of Atlanta. This began with her great grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Her father was interested in theatre from a very young stage. While studying at Emory University in 1952 he performed in shows on campus and elsewhere in Atlanta. After joining the airforce and appearing in an airforce production in Biloxi with Betty Lou Bredemus. Eric Anthony was their first born. They got married in the year. Walter went to Tulane University at New Orleans in the year 1957, after the couple left the US Air Force. Walter was recruited as a technician by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to work on the set of the television show Bum Bum His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. Walter as well as Betty Lou financed their own production of a Sunday morning show for children, Bum Bum and His Buddies. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in the year 1964, and it ran for six years. They welcomed in 1965 two more children into their lives: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
