Julia Fiona Roberts' parents are Walter Grady Roberts and Betty Lou Bredemus. She is the fourth Roberts generation living in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather who was a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. In the early years of his life, her dad became fascinated by theatre. While he was a students studying at Emory University from 1952 to 1954, he participated in many performances. In 1953, he joined the Air Force, and was stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi acted in a production together with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their son, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter was studying at Tulane University, New Orleans Louisiana. In the year 1957, they quit the Air Force and Walter began his studies at Tulane. Walter began his work at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. Walter and Betty Lou financed their own production of the local children's Sunday matinee show called Bum Bum and His Buddies. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou founded the Actors and Writers Workshop. It lasted for six years. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also known as Lisa) as well as Julia (also called Julie) during this period.
